WRONG. For those of the opinion that Tory wasn't "enough" for Ash, I say go back and re-read all of his encounters with Artemis, his mother, and most of the other women (except one or two) who impacted his formative years and then tell yourself that he needed a physically perfect, Amazonian type of woman who'd spit lightening bolts or shoot fire from her eyes or something. .made for a harrowing, gut-wrenching, tear inducing, thought provoking, hyper-intense story. Kenyon has always provided intriguing glimpses into Ash's mysterious past and his long standing love/hate relationship with Artemis throughout all the other stories. Kenyon does an excellent job of drawing sharp and vivid contrasts between Tory and the physically perfect, all-powerful(yet sadly insecure) self-serving "heifer-goddess" (that Simi should've devoured centuries ago.with extra bbq sauce). I advise all fans of this series to read this book and judge it for yourself. Only if you can appreciate all that he survived (or didn't survive) can you fully appreciate, understand and even applaud, the second part of Ash's story.his love story.
Tory was just what Ash needed if for nothing more than her sense of humor, her spectacular brain, and her life-long studies and love of all things ancient. After reading all of the other Dark-Hunter's stories and some of the reviews on this one, I was apprehensive and prepared for a let down. WRONG. Ms. Her foreword for this book does an excellent job (if anything could) of preparing the reader for the journey into hell that was the beginning of life for our beloved Acheron. Ms. She does so by endowing Tory with a smart mouth, tempered by girl-next-door wholsomeness fueled by SUPER POWERS that Ash treasures above all else: innate human kindness, the ability to love unconditionally and fierce, selfless loyalty.This part of the story was so very satisfying as Ash, who saves the world on an almost daily basis, has long deserved his own personal champion and savior.
I love the whole series and look forward to more. I was so happy that Ash found love at last but I wanted more.
In each book of the series I found myself wanting Ash to find love and to know more about him. First of all I love Ash.
The first part could have been more condensed. I must agree with some of the other reviews.
The beginning of the book was overkill and so depressing. Even though I was a bit disappointed I have to admit I read the second half of the book about six times just to read about Ash.
I would love to have a book that brings all of the DH couples together more and primarily about Ash and Tory's life together.
If you like the Dark Hunter novels I think you'll love this book. I couldnt wait for this story to come out so you can understand the leader of the dark hunters better. This book didnt disappoint at all.
As a reader I felt like I did all this hard work to get to the promise land and it was over in the blink of an eye. "Acheron" was a definate page turner for me and I only put it down long enough to do the essentials (go to work, sleep at least 4 hours, pee and eat).However, I did find that the first part of the book was a little too long. First off, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE SK books and I don't think there was ANY way SK was going to make everyone happy with this highly anticipated novel. I have to say that I don't agree with what some of the other reviewers are saying about Tory's character being weak. What I find so funny is that at the end of "Acheron" is an outtake from "Seize the Night" where SK says, "the length of the book was such that my editor at the time thought we should cut it.," which left me wondering if she still works with said "editor" OR is she now only working with editors that don't know how to deal out some tough love. If nothing else I feel that the second half should have been as beefy as the first so that the book was more balanced. I loved Tory and thought making her an expert in "ancient studies" was genius. Overall, this book is still a must buy.
I have always loved Ash. Though I am perhaps rather young to be reading this series, I have loved it ever since my stepdad bought me Dream Chaser. He is dark, mysterious, seductive and had obviously suffered a great tragedy while still being kind and having an amazing if not dark sense of humor. I am absolutely addicted. This book had me reading constantly and having eagerly awaited it, I was not disappointed. This book had me crying hysterically the entire first half and laughing the second half. It was one of my favorites in my favorite series by my favorite author and not a single on of the books has disappointed me.
